(Ephrata) -- A new study suggests the power of mammograms may be overestimated. The doctors behind the report say a flood of "pink" awareness programs and survivor testamonials have given the test more value than it should have.

witf and Facing Cancer Together  were honored to attend this year's PA Breast Cancer Coalition conference in Harrisburg.  We were inspired by the women we ment there and would like to share the personal stories of four of these breast cancer survivors with you.  We've created Digital Quilt patches where you can hear the stories of Kathy, Kate, Scarlett and Tammy... told in their own voices.

(Miami Beach, Fl.) -- Vitamin D is found in milk and other foods like fish and eggs. It's also found in a lot of supplements making all sorts of medical claims.  witf's Craig Layne talked with a Pennsylvania medical student who has just published a study on Vitamin D and its possible effects on cancer.

Lancaster County native Katie Hayek, landed a starring role in The Mighty Macs (see a trailer) -- a film about the first women's basketball college national champions from Immaculata College.  The film opens in theatres across the country this weekend.  Miss Hayek was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, a form of cancer, when filming began, but acted in the movie through her treatments.

(Elizabethtown) -- While more and more people are winning the fight against cancer, many still die from the disease. For those who cannot be cured, hospice care may be an option to ease both physical and emotional pain.

(Philadelphia) -- Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have achieved a cancer treatment breakthrough after 20 years of work. A team at the Abramson Cancer Center was able to modify blood cells called "T cells" to attack tumors in patients with a certain type of leukemia.

HERSHEY, Pa- Exciting new research at Penn State Hershey Medical Center has found that there is a new virus that kills breast cancer cells.  And, it kills all types of breast cancer cells without damaging healthy cells.

Medical science has made great strides in detecting and treating breast cancer but what is left to be done?  To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to help answer tis question, Pat Halpin-Murphy, the president and founder of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition joined Radio Smart Talk's Scott LaMar in the witf studio.
